Great Britain face Italy this evening at the Skydome in Coventry (7:30pm) in the first of four games in the UK as part of their preparations for next month’s World Championship in Slovakia.

It’s the first meeting between the two sides since last April’s famous game in Hungary in the World Championship Division I Group A.

GB won a thrilling encounter 4-3 and history shows that both sides were promoted to the top flight on a dramatic final day in Budapest.

Britain beat Italy 8-1 in their first-ever meeting at the European Championships in Davos in 1926, but GB’s stunning win in Budapest last year ended a 66-year period of Italian dominance.

The previous GB victory was as far back as the 1952 World Championships as they skated to a 7-3 win.
