Great Britain assistant captain Robert Dowd was awarded his 50th cap in a special dressing-room ceremony before tonight’s game with Estonia in the World Championship Division 1 Group B in Belfast.

GB general manager Andy Buxton and Ice Hockey UK general secretary Andy French were on hand for the presentation.

Dowd, who made his full national-team debut in the 2008-09 season, becomes the 23rd player in GB history to reach a half-century of caps.

“Robert has been a great player for GB for eight years now and performs fantastically year on year,” said Buxton.

“He had a fantastic game last night and was a key part of the win against Croatia.

“You can rely on Robert every night and I am sure he will be a key part of GB for many years to come.”

Dowd said: “It is a fantastic honour to reach 50 caps for GB.

“It is very special to play for your country, but to make it to a milestone is quite humbling.”
