Forward Colin Shields says Great Britain’s pressure on the puck was key as they thrashed Lithuania 8-0 in their third game at the World Championship (Division 1B) in Zagreb.

The result moves GB to second in the six-team group and a point behind leaders Ukraine who have nine points from three matches.

Shields scored GB’s eighth goal and the 36th of his international career.

“I think we just got more pressure on the puck and everybody worked that little bit harder,” said Shields.

“They didn’t seem to get any easy breakouts coming out of their zone.

“The defence were stepping up and picking off passes and getting in their forwards’ faces.

“They couldn’t even get out of their zone at times.

“It is a credit to the boys for working hard and sticking to the system.

“We knew they were coming off a couple of big wins.

“We went at them hard and I think we did a good job.”

There are no games in the tournament tomorrow and GB return to action on Friday when they face Romania at 1pm (12noon UK time).
