Defenceman Mark Richardson says Great Britain can take a lot from their first two games at the World Championship in Zagreb, despite two contrasting performances.

GB began the Division 1B tournament with a 4-1 victory over hosts Croatia, before beating Estonia 4-3 thanks to an overtime winner from Robert Dowd.

There were no games in Zagreb today but GB still took to the ice for a training session.

“We came here to win five games and, as of now, we have won both our games,” said Cardiff blueliner Richardson.

“I think we can take a lot out of both games. Our performance against Croatia was very good.

“Yesterday we played well at times but there are a lot of areas we can look at and improve.

“In a tournament like this, maybe it is a blessing in disguise.

“We can look at those areas and it can help us push on.”

Next up for GB it is Lithuania, who have already beaten Estonia and Romania to top the group with six points from two matches.

Britain lost 3-2 last year to Lithuania – a result which meant they missed out on the gold medal.

Richardson, who will win his 65th cap tomorrow, continued: “Lithuania are a good team.

“We have played them a couple of times over the last few years and they have been very close games.

“They work hard and they keep skating. They have some very good skill as well.

“It is going to be a very tough game.”

GB against Lithuania faces-off at 4:30pm local time tomorrow (3:30pm UK).
