JOINT STATEMENT FROM ICE HOCKEY UK AND SCOTTISH ICE HOCKEY

Joint statement by Ice Hockey UK and Scottish Ice Hockey

A constructive meeting was held yesterday between representatives of IHUK, SIH and other parties involved in the sport in Scotland around the restarting of senior and junior ice hockey in Scotland.

The meeting was productive and it was agreed that competitive junior ice hockey should restart on Saturday 30th October 2021, with competitive senior ice hockey looking to restart within the next two to three weeks.

All parties agree that they need to work together for the betterment of the sport of ice hockey in Scotland.

IHUK Chair, Clifton Wrottesley, said: “I was encouraged with the positive outcome of the meeting and I am delighted that ice hockey in Scotland will return very soon.

“All parties agreed that, wherever possible, nothing should get in the way of a return to competition and came together to make sure there would be no further delay to competitive games being played.

“I would like to thank all involved in the meeting for setting aside their differences and reaching agreement on the key issues.

“There is still work to be done on other related matters, but the main focus had to be on getting kids and players back on the ice in competitive formats.”

SIH chairman, David Hand, said: “After such a long layoff, it will be great to get things moving again.

“We all want to see ice hockey in Scotland thrive and I believe this is the first step to making that happen.

“SIH will now work with all parties to take our sport in Scotland forward.”
