The preparation is over, the action is about to start for real in Nottingham.

Great Britain Women begin their Olympic Qualification Group F tournament on Thursday evening against Iceland (face-off 7.15pm) after an almost week-long camp at the National Ice Centre.

Also in their sights are Slovenia and Korea with only one team moving on to final qualifying next month on the road to Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Wednesday’s final pre-tournament day saw all four teams take a long training session to fine-tune their tactics and set-plays and get ready for three games in four days.

For the home nation, playing in one of the UK’s hockey towns alongside live free-to-air TV coverage gives the opportunity to showcase the women’s game to a wide audience.

Coach Mike Clancy and captain Saffron Allen both spoke about playing on home ice in their first Ice Hockey UK TV interviews, and it’s clear that the players and staff are relishing the opportunity presented to them by Korea’s decision to withdraw from hosting just weeks before the tournament.

Tickets for the games at NIC are priced keenly at just £6.50 (inc fees) with under-16s attending for free with a paying adult.  Pre-sales have already guaranteed Sunday’s finale against Korea will have the biggest attendance for any women’s hockey game in the UK.

Any hockey fans who can get to Nottingham for Thursday, Friday or Sunday would be more than welcome and be part of what could be a very special weekend for the GB Women.

Then add in to the mix live coverage on FreeSports and there is not a better opportunity for women’s hockey in the UK to put on a show.

FreeSports coverage will be led by Aaron Murphy and Paul Adey with former GB international Angela Taylor as studio guest.  Angela will also co-commentate on the non-GB games with Jono Bullard, which are being shown on The Olympic Channel.

Dream. Succeed. Inspire. The time is now.
