GB U18 WOMEN TO TAKE PART IN FOUR NATIONS CUP

Great Britain Under-18 Women are set to take part in the Four Nations Cup in Iceland later this year as part of their 2022 World Championship preparations.

GB will come up against hosts Iceland, along with Poland and Spain between 11th and 14th November 2021.

It will be the sixth time that the tournament has been held after it first took place in 2015 – with Iceland replacing Hungary from 2019 – although there was no competition last year because of the pandemic.

Under-18 Women’s Head Coach, James Ashton, said: “We had a great first camp last week, putting our plans in motion for preparation for the upcoming season. As a coach, there is nothing more important than getting some game experience in.

“The Four Nations Cup has been a huge part of the players’ development in the past and it’s great to have the backing to go to this tournament. This¬†experience is sometimes the first many players will have had at international level.

“Speaking on behalf of all the staff and players, we are very grateful to Ice Hockey UK in ensuring the continued participation in the Four Nations Cup.

“Game time may be even more difficult this season because of the restrictions, but we will make sure we are well prepared for the Four Nations and the challenge of a World Championship.”

GB won the 2019 edition of the tournament which was held on home ice in Dumfries, Scotland.

After victories over Spain U18 Women (3-0) and Iceland Women (4-3), GB secured their success with a 4-2 win over Poland U18 Women.

This year’s tournament is subject to coronavirus restrictions being correct for the teams to travel and play in Iceland.
