MORTON APPOINTED ICE HOCKEY UK VICE-CHAIR

Eric Morton has been named as Vice-Chair and Senior Independent Director of Ice Hockey UK.

Morton, who was already part of the IHUK board, has worked for many years in the NHS as Chief Executive at a number of hospitals across the East and West Midlands.

He is currently Chair of the board at Nottingham University Hospitals, which is one of the largest hospital trusts in England.

Morton, who has followed ice hockey for over 25 years, said: “I am delighted to have accepted the role of Vice-Chair and Senior Independent Director. Ice Hockey UK is in a period of redefining its role in the aftermath of proposed unification not going through. There is a challenging future for the sport as we emerge from the pandemic.

“It is important that IHUK work closely and collaboratively with partners such as the Elite League, the EIHA and SIHA to raise the profile of the game and develop British players at all age groups – men and women – to be the players of the future. It will be an exciting journey and I am excited to be a part of it.”

Clifton Wrottesley, Chair of Ice Hockey UK, said: “The IHUK board and I are delighted that Eric has agreed to take on the vital role of Vice-Chair and Senior Independent Director.

“Eric will provide the board with the required level of governance compliance to give confidence to our existing and potential stakeholders and funding partners.

“He will also lead an Ice Hockey UK Governance Review process which will include a board restructuring. This should form the first step of an overarching restructuring of IHUK and its activities. My sincere thanks also to the IHUK board for their support with this appointment.”
