RIP BOB KOROL

Ice Hockey UK and Great Britain ice hockey would like to send our thoughts and wishes to the family and friends of Bob Korol, who has passed away at the age of 64.

Korol, who was born in Rosetown in Saskatoon, Canada, was assistant coach for GB at the 1993 World Championship in Eindhoven.

It a very famous tournament for Great Britain as they won seven out of seven games in the B Pool to win promotion to the top flight of world ice hockey.

Korol first came to the UK in the 1987-88 season as a player for Telford and took up an assistant coach role a season later.

He had stints with Birmingham and Basingstoke before becoming rink manager in Kirkcaldy, Fife at the start of the 1990s.

Korol went on to work for Sky Sports when they broadcast Superleague games in the 1990s.

He met his wife Dawn in Fife and returned to North America in 2008 to be nearer his family.

RIP Bob.
