ICE HOCKEY URGENT QUESTION RAISED IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS

UK ice hockey was discussed in the House of Commons as an urgent question was put forward today.

The MP for Nottingham South, Lilian Greenwood, underlined the impact that the coronavirus pandemic is having on the sport.

“The latest restrictions for indoor sports put local clubs at risk of shutting down. That would be devastating news,” she told a sitting in parliament.

She referenced a club local to her constituency, Nottingham City Cyclones, and mentioned financial pressures on the National Ice Centre.

Lilian Greenwood went on to say to Nigel Huddlestone, the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Minister: “What’s he doing to save ice hockey?

“It’s the UK’s most-watched indoor sport and one that matters to thousands of spectators and participants…across the country.”

The minister replied that the government are in contact with over 100 sport governing bodies, saying “we understand the issues and concerns and will do what we can”.
