RATHBONE APPOINTED TO MAJOR BUIHA ROLE

The British Universities Ice Hockey Association (BUIHA) have appointed Ryan Rathbone as the Head of International Programme.

Head coach of the Great Britain Universities (GBU) women’s team, Ryan Rathbone, has been promoted to Head of International Programmes. Ryan will assume all responsibility for the GBU programme including developing a long term sustainable plan continuing on the success of his predecessor Simon Hopkins.

The BUIHA would like to thank Simon for his hard work, dedication and commitment in getting the GBU programme off the ground and to where it is today.

Upon appointment Rathbone said “it’s an honour to take on the role as head of international programmes for the BUIHA. It’s a huge task to develop a programme that can develop players and teams capable of competing against top hockey nations. Simon has done fantastic work and I’m looking forward to building on this.”

BUIHA Chairman, Andrew Miller added “The programme has come a long way under Simon and he has worked hard to build a positive reputation for the organisation, its role on the international stage, relationships with stakeholders from across the sport and most importantly in the development of players through the programme. Ryan has worked with us on a number of development activities with university ice hockey and has some exciting plans that will take us to the next level and demonstrate our commitment to developing players through the international opportunities we provide through the World University Games”

Rathbone continued, “I will now be conducting a review of the GBU programme and hope to be able to announce the programme plans shortly.”

There will be a full review of all staffing. Coaches, managers and support staff interested in being involved with the programme should send a cover letter and CV to ryan.rathbone@buiha.org.uk.
