GB U20S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN TALLINN TO BE SHOWN ON FREESPORTS

All five of Great Britain Under-20s’ games at next month’s IIHF U20 World Championship Division II Group A in Tallinn will be shown on FreeSports.

Slava Koulikov’s side face hosts Estonia, along with Korea, Lithuania, Romania and Spain, from 13th to 19th January 2019 at the Tondiraba Ice Hall.

GB start the six-team tournament against Lithuania on 13th January, before meeting Korea the following day.

After a rest day, Britain play Estonia on 16th January and then go head-to-head with Romania a day later.

The second rest day follows before GB play their final match when they take on Spain.

IHUK general secretary, Andy French, said: “It is fantastic news that GB U20s will be shown live on free-to-air television.

“FreeSports are leading the way when it comes to coverage of hockey in the UK and around the world.

“It is great that our junior players will be given the exposure in a prestigious IIHF tournament.”

Richard Webb, operations director at FreeSports, said: “Following on from the very successful coverage of last year’s GB U20s tournament shown live on FreeSports, we are delighted to broadcast the 2019 tournament of future ice hockey stars to fans in the UK on free-to-air television.

“This coverage adds to our support of ice hockey in the UK with viewers able to enjoy live EIHL games and the mouth-watering prospect of the men’s GB team in the top tier World Championship this May.”

Coverage will be provided by production company 247.tv

FreeSports is available free on Sky Channel 422, Virgin Media Channel 553, on Channel 64 on Freeview and BT and on Freesat Channel 252.

In August 2018, the EIHL and FreeSports announced games will be televised live in the 2018-19 season, including bi-weekly highlights.

The channel previously showed the IIHF Men’s World Championship in 2018 where the GB won gold, last year’s GB Under-20 World Championship games from Dumfries, as well as GB U18 World Championship from Tallinn in April.

FreeSports also shows live Guinness PRO14 and Premiership Rugby Shield games, an array of ice hockey coverage from the NHL, SHL and KHL, as well as live Portuguese football.
