MYERS: BEST MOMENT OF MY CAREER

Forward Matthew Myers says winning the gold medal with Great Britain and promotion to the top level of the World Championship was the “best moment of his career”.

Needing a point for promotion, GB trailed Hungary 2-0 with 10 minutes to go before a goal by Robert Dowd and a second penalty-shot save of the tournament by Ben Bowns changed the game.

Robert Farmer equalised with 15 seconds remaining to secure the point in regulation time that GB needed to make a first return to the top flight since 1994.

GB went on to win the game 3-2 as Bowns made four saves in the penalty shootout and Britain scored through Farmer and Ben O’Connor.

“It is surreal and I just can’t quite believe it,” said Myers. “We have achieved something very, very special.

“I have never known anything like it and this is the best moment in my career.

“Last year’s gold medal in Belfast to get GB to this level was special, but to do this is just something I can’t describe.”
