GB U18S 3-2 LITHUANIA U18S

Great Britain Under-18s kept alive their gold medal hopes with a 3-2 victory over Lithuania U18 at the World Championship Division II Group A in Tallinn.

For GB to win promotion they now need to beat Korea on the final day and hope Poland lose to Australia today or hosts Estonia tomorrow.

First-period lead for GB
Britain outshot Lithuania 10-6 in the opening period but only had one goal to show for their efforts.

Ben Solder fired the puck through traffic from the point (14:09) for his first goal of the tournament.

GB stay in front after four-goal second period
Lukas Washco’s neat backhand finish at 25:26 brought Lithuania level, before GB regained the lead a little over two minutes later when Mason Alderson-Biddulph chipped the puck over the netminder on the powerplay on a doorstep rebound (27:37).

Lithuania then hit back with a powerplay goal of their own through Timonas Mazulis’ shot from the left circle (33:46).

But GB ensured a 3-2 second-period lead as Liam Kirk cleverly touched in his third goal of the tournament after a pass by Finlay Ulrick (36:56).

Goalless third period
GB pushed for a second goal which would have helped them if they finished on level points with Lithuania and Poland, but they were unable to beat Laurynas Lubys.

GB return to action tomorrow when they face Korea at 4:30pm (2:30pm UK time).
