GREAT BRITAIN WOMEN 3-1 DPR KOREA WOMEN

Great Britain Women made it two wins from two at the World Championship Division II Group A with a 3-1 victory over DPR Korea in Maribor, Slovenia.

Angela Taylor and Leanne Ganney both scored their third goals of the tournament, while GB netminder Nicole Jackson made 13 saves.

First-period lead for GB
Britain took the lead in the first period as Ganney reacted first to a loose puck, with the assists going to Kim Lane and Sophie Herbert (17:43).

GB created the better chances in the first 20 minutes, with Katie Henry also going close, but only had one goal to show for their efforts.

Tight second period
Taylor smashed a shot from left point against the post before scoring GB’s second when she picked out the top corner from the right circle (25:14).

Korea got themselves back into the game with a free-flowing move from back to front which saw Kim Un Hyang touch the puck past Jackson at 29:12.

Farman seals GB win
GB continued to pile on the pressure in the third period and were rewarded with their third goal as Georgina Farman reacted first to a loose park after she had started a move in the neutral zone (45:59).

Korea lifted their netminder Ri Pom in favour of an extra skater in the closing stages and Jackson had to be at her best to deny Jong Su Hyon from close range.

Britain adapted well – Ashton
GB Women assistant coach, James Ashton, said: “This was another good performance from the team.

“We adapted well when we went to plan B and changed things around and that was great to see.

“We lost to this team last year so is another fantastic result for us and the momentum keeps moving.”

There are no games in the tournament tomorrow and GB return to action on Tuesday when they face Mexico at Mexico at 4:30pm (3:30pm UK time).
