IHUK BID FOR U20S AND U18S

Ice Hockey UK, in conjunction with Dumfries and Galloway Council and Dumfries Ice Bowl, have registered bids to host two junior World Championship tournaments in 2018.

Proposals have been put forward to the IIHF for Great Britain to host the Under-20 Division 2 Group A and the U18 Division 2 Group A in Dumfries.

A presentation was put forward to Congress in Cologne this morning by chairman Richard Grieveson and voting will take place tomorrow.

The Dumfries Ice Bowl has already successfully hosted various international tournaments, including Under-20 and Under-18 World Championship tournaments in the 2013-14 season and the Women’s Division 2 Group A tournament in 2015.

Meanwhile, an U18 Women’s World Championship qualifying tournament was held there in 2014 and the IHUK Under-20s National Finals Weekend have taken place at the venue in 2016 and 2017.

The U20 World Championship Division 2 Group A will consist of GB, Estonia, Japan, Netherlands and Romania, along with Korea who were promoted from Division 2 Group B this year.

The U18 World Championship Division 2 Group A will consist of GB, Estonia, Korea and Lithuania, along with Poland who were relegated from Division 1 Group B and Australia who were promoted from Division 2 Group B.
