BOWNS: JUST START THE GAMES!

Great Britain goalie Ben Bowns just wants the games to start in Belfast.

The Cardiff stopper told Ice Hockey UK Radio: “It’s reached that point now we’ve been here for a couple of days, you see the other teams training and we’re just raring to go.

“It hits you that the first game is so close, you just want to get going.”

Bowns joined the squad after the pre-tournament games against Poland but says there’s a ‘good vibe’ in the group.

“We’ve had two very up-tempo practices, everyone is in a good mood.  There’s always a great atmosphere in the GB team, it’s like a big family.

“Players battle against each other all season but we come together for international duty and everyone gets on straight away.”

The six-team tournament – the first men’s World Championship in the UK for 25 years – gets under way tomorrow and GB will play Croatia in their first game (4pm).

After two successive silver medals the home advantage could be a difference maker this time around.

“The last two years do burn a little but we learn from the mistakes we’ve made.  Having our home crowd hopefully gives us that last little push and we get the job done.”
