LITHUANIA U18S 1-3 GB U18s

Great Britain Under-18s picked up their first win of their World Championship Division 2 Group A campaign as they beat previously-unbeaten Lithuania Under-18s 3-1 in Gangneung.

GB netminder Ethan James turned away 24 of the 25 shots he faced in a man-of-the-match performance.

Caly Robertson broke clear to score GB’s first at 30:38 and grabbed his second from close range less than four minutes later (34:34).

Egidijus Binkulis closed the gap at 42:10 before GB had to kill a five-minute major penalty after Lewis Baldwin was thrown out for kneeing.

Tyler Cooper scored his third goal of the tournament into an empty net (59:48).

GB U18s head coach, Martin Grubb, said: “I thought we were excellent today and stuck to the system for 60 minutes.

“We were stronger than them in key areas and our penalty kill was fantastic and it is a great reward for the players’ hard work.

“We needed to show our true character and ensure we outworked them and I thought we limited the chances they had.

“Our five-minute penalty kill was huge for us and swung the momentum back in our favour – and it was nice for the boys to get the reward they deserved.

“We now need to kick on and play as we did today and finish this tournament strong.”

GB U18s have no game tomorrow before turning to action on Friday when they face Romania at 12noon (4am UK time).
