Double defeat for GB teams on Wednesday
Great Britain Men’s Universities were beaten 14-0 by Canada at the 28th Winter Universiade in Almaty.
Period scores of 6-0, 3-0 and 5-0 saw the 2013 gold-medal winners secure victory, as they outshot GB 74-9.
Coach, Matt Bradbury, said: “The players worked hard under tough circumstances against a very strong Canadian team that I would expect will be playing for the gold medal.
“The boys kept their discipline throughout and are still in good spirits, mindset and health.
“Ultimately, the players are exactly where we want them to be in preparation for the placing games with our style of play, transitional game, powerplay and short-handed units.
“I am very proud how our team are going about their business.
“We want to have a good show against USA tomorrow and then we’ll see where we sit at the end of the prelims.
“The Canadian coaching staff were very complimentary and said GB should be very proud of the way they played with huge character.”
The men return to action tomorrow when they face USA (6:30am UK time).
Defeat also for GB Women’s Universities
Meanwhile, the GB Women’s Universities side lost 12-0 to China.
