GOOD TEAM PERFORMANCE – CLARKE

Forward David Clarke says there were contributions all over the ice as Great Britain beat hosts Croatia 4-1 in their opening game at the World Championship (Division 1B) in Zagreb.

Robert Dowd, Jonathan Weaver, Craig Peacock and Colin Shields were all on target as Pete Russell’s side made an excellent start to the tournament.

Clarke said: “I thought we were solid all over the ice and that is a good way to start the tournament.

“There were plenty of man-of-the-match performances, so we have lots to be pleased about.

“Of course, there are things we can do better but this is just the start we wanted.

“We had good puck possession and we moved the puck really well.

“There were some nice goals scored and we looked really solid. It was excellent.”

GB return straight to action tomorrow (Monday) against Estonia, who were beaten by Lithuania in the opening game of the tournament.

“We need to rest now and focus on game two against Estonia,” added Clarke.

“We cannot take them lightly and we must show them plenty of respect.

“Now we are up and running we cannot lose that momentum.

“If we can beat Estonia, two victories out of two would set us nicely going into the rest day.”
