Steelers Win Bronze Medal at Continental Cup Final
The Sheffield Steelers became the first ever Elite League Team to make the Super Finals of the Continental Cup and also came away from the event with a Bronze medal, a huge achievement for Dave Matsos and the team
Head Coach David Matsos was disappointed how the game against Minsk ended but was proud of his teams achievements over the three days "We made some mistakes that cost us badly in the two games we lost out here" he said
"However when you look back you can't have anything other than a huge sense of achievement in what we did just being out here. We came to this event with many questioning our rights to take part in an event like this, we turned some heads, we acted with great professionalism and we come home with our heads held high and with a great deal of pride
"Would we have liked a gold or silver medal, well of course we would, however we are the first British team out of the Elite League to come away with any medal. Its another big stepping stone for hockey in Britain
"Now we head back to the league and Thursdays game with Edinburgh, very different to the games we have played here this weekend but probably more important, we have to get back to winning ways in our own league so we can have another crack at events like this again in the future"
Mike O'Connor has confirmed that the Steelers have agreed terms with a new player and have issued a contract to the players agent that they expect to be signed on Monday Morning
"The deal has been agreed" said O'Connor speaking from the teams hotel in Grenoble where the club has been taking part in the Super Finals of the Continental Cup "we have been speaking to this player for a few days and we agreed terms with both him and his agent this evening
"We have issued a contract and we don't expect any last minute problems, I think it will be all signed and sealed on Monday and I hope to see him in our line up on Thursday against Edinburgh Capitals at the Arena"
